Whiplash Treatment

Whiplash is the common name given to a soft tissue injury in the neck, such as the ligament or tendons. Your doctor may also otherwise use the more specific terms of cervical sprain or hyperextension injury.

Whiplash is an extremely painful form of neck injury that could render the patient totally incapable of carrying out his or her daily duties. This immobility can be very frustrating and can damage the self-esteem of the patient, therefore, many doctors recommend alternative methods of therapy and healing in order to help the patient resume his or her daily activities. Whiplash often occurs when a patient is involved in a car crash and they experience a sprain or strain in the neck. Whiplash is a way of defining the strain or sprain in the neck where there’s an injury or tear to the soft tissue in the neck or around the neck area.

There are many types of whiplash treatment out there in the market and we should all ensure that we invest our money and time into the most effective form of whiplash treatment there is available to us. It is essential that we use the most effective form of aid for our injury because there’s an injury to the intervertebral joints, discs, ligaments, cervical muscles or even the nerve roots.

As serious as this condition sounds, it is completely treatable. In fact, if you use the right form of whiplash treatment, you can cure your problem within 2 to 3 weeks. However, your doctor may, first, wish to apply a cervical collar in order to help you relax and rest the neck. This is a very necessary part of whiplash treatment.

Some doctors or medical practitioners will recommend heat or cold therapy to help relieve the muscles or increase blood flow to the area of injury. Pain medications like analgesics or non-steroidical anti-inflammatory drugs will be prescribed to relieve you of the pain. If you are still experiencing throbbing or pain, your doctor might let you have some muscle relaxants, which will hasten your healing process. Together with motion exercises and some mild physical therapy, you will recover from this condition in no time.

However, this form of neck injury can be cured right from the comfort of your own home – but only if the neck injury is not too serious. Be warned that if the symptoms persist for 6 weeks or more, you may need to be admitted into the hospital for observations and further treatment for your whiplash. However, for some lucky patients, DIY cold therapy usually does the trick. They may experience some level of intense pain during the first few days of the incident, and then after using recommended cold therapy, their symptoms will subside within 2 to 4 weeks. For those who are trying to cure their condition from home, if the symptoms persist beyond 4 weeks, it is advisable to consult with a doctor. But for those who are lucky enough to get away with a mild case of neck injury, you can usually cure yourself within a short period of time with the right whiplash treatment.

A more serious form of this condition may require an x-ray or other forms of diagnostic testing to determine if the patient is actually suffering more than just a mild case of whiplash. In the worst case scenario, surgical repair may be required to repair damaged discs. But this is not very common, so, the best thing for you to do, if you think you’re suffering from this condition, is to consult with a doctor.
