The RecoverGear by Fizio compression shorts are unique because of their ability to be worn as an undergarment for support and to facilitate heat and cold packs. By simply placing the thermal packs in the pockets it provides therapy for pre or post exercise for the quadriceps and hamstrings. 4 total ice/hot packs come with every order. Provides needed compression to both of your hamstrings and quadriceps. Compression is important as it is known to reduce swelling. Compression also helps in the day-to-day maintenance of your injured knee.
Integrated with each pair of shorts are 4 sleeves that hold the cold/hot packs. These packs when frozen further assist in reducing swelling by constricting the blood flow to the sore or injured area.
What make this wrap great is the light weight of the material combined with the ice pack. The ice covers nearly the entire circumference of your leg.
As a general guideline, the less soft tissue that is present at the injury site, the shorter the period that the area should be iced; 10 minutes would be a minimum application, with 25 to 30 minutes representing the upper end of a safe icing range. Ice packs themselves get a 5-star. They stay cold for hours and mold easily around body parts. The shorts are sized way small (I have a 34" waist and the XXLs barely fit) Most importantly for me, the ice packs do not cover IT band areas well. That's where the seam between the pockets is, so ice application is minimal there. I probably would have done better with the quad wrap, but at $50 each the shorts seemed a better deal. Maybe something in the product description could better describe IT bands as "minimal coverage" on the ice shorts, or something of that nature. Customer service was great. Handled a product exchange for sizing quickly and without problem. I'd do business with them again, but would be more careful about what products I select without speaking with them first.
