The main ligament injuries occur to the ACL, PCL, and MCL. You’ll most likely recognize an ACL injury immediately upon being injured, for they are often excruciatingly painful, and you’ll often hear a popping noise. A PCL injury is characterized by pain below the front of the knee, and an MCL injury usually results from direct contact to the outside of the knee which creates a sharp pain within the knee.Patellar Tendonitis
- The most common knee tendonitis involves the patellar tendon. The patellar tendon connects your kneecap to your shinbone, and the pain is usually felt over the front of the knee. This particular knee pain is usually found in individuals who are repeatedly jumping, most often athletes participating in basketball, volleyball, etc.Chondromalacia Patella
- This minor condition is characterized by pain felt under the kneecap itself. It is usually the result of excessive running, walking, or climbing. The cartilage under the kneecap, which acts as a shock absorber of sorts, can become damaged by overuse. The pain can be quite discomforting, however will usually go away with proper rest and icing.Knee Bursitis
- Bursitis of the knee is when the bursae (or friction reducing fluid) of the knee have become damaged or inflamed due to overuse and repeated physical activity. The increased friction between the knee tendons and knee bones is what causes you to feel pain, usually above the kneecap. Bursitis of the knee is very common among people who spend a lot of time gardening or working on their knees.
